CASH Oregon ModeratorParticipant
Andreanna,
I found out who your instructor was, Celest. I have forwarded your email to her
Hopefully you should be hearing from her shortly.CASH Oregon ModeratorParticipantTeri Anne,
I understand that this might be a stressful adventure, but we are all here to help.
Not getting the problem 100% correct is okay; we really want to see the efforts given into solving the tax return.
The Proficiency Problem checker is available to help you know if “too high” or “too low”.
You are welcome to email your Oregon class instructor (they are the person whom gets your checker sheet) to help you figure out or steer you to where you need to be; you also have tomorrow at the Problem/Test Lab, if you need to have personal help with these problems or the test book problems. Maybe we can see you there tomorrow?CASH Oregon ModeratorParticipantHi Andreana,
Please don’t shoot me. But in December, congress made some tax law changes. They moved the 10% back to 7.5% and a handful of other things.(I’ll email you a power point that describes all the changes.) While I have no way of checking how the test is graded, I’m told that the test answers now reflect the tax law as changed.I have no worries about you passing the test as diligent as you are. All you need is 80% and I’m guessing you will do much better than that. Feel free to check back as needed.

CASH Oregon ModeratorParticipantThanks for the question Andreana. I have not worked these problems myself. I will send the Harrison and Baily answers in a separate email. (I don’t think we are supposed to post them on a web site like this.) I can’t find the Fish answers but I will try to track them down. I’m glad to look at them if you want to talk about them.

CASH Oregon ModeratorParticipantHi Susan,
I am taking a guess because I can’t replicate the problem on my own account. The PTIN Field is not a required field on the form. Maybe another field was accidently selected that makes the PTIN a required entry? Maybe Professional Status for CE Credit? Can you exit and try again? Let me know if you can figure it out.
Kathy GoeddelCASH Oregon ModeratorParticipantHi Rodney,
That is a great question. The 4 sites, all with different requirements are confusing! My apologies for taking so long to respond – I am new to this and thought I had answered this morning… but I guess not! The information is on the Orientation Handout available on the Cashoregon.org website, under class materials for orientation, page 8. I have included the specifics here.1. For “Group”, select “2- TCE – AARP Volunteer”
2. Check “No” for “Site Coordinator” even if you are an LC.
3. For Training Source, select “Publication 4491”.
4. Complete the remaining fields with your information.
5. All fields with a ‘*’ must be completed.
Leave the “SEID” field blank, it is for IRS employees only.
Complete the Professional Status and PTIN Number fields only if you will be seeking
continuing education credits.
Make sure that you record your Login (user name) and Password.
When you have completed all fields, click REGISTER.
You can now log in using your new Login and Password. This is the entry page.
For returning counselors, go to “My Account” and update the years of service
and any other information that may have changed.
Click Save when finished editing. This will return you to the Home page.CASH Oregon ModeratorParticipantHi Adreana,
I will send you the answers to the two returns with an email to you. They will be posted under class materials for Class F, all things medical.Kathy

You are not alone in trying to understand the relationship. The new forms from last year make it challenging for everyone! The 4012 is the best resource for figuring out the “translation” between the IRS and TaxSlayer forms.
CASH Oregon ModeratorParticipantHi Adreana,
I don’t have them readily available at the moment, but I will try to find someone who does. Stay tuned.
Kathy GoeddelCASH Oregon ModeratorParticipantCap gain and Std deduction are OK but adjustments are way off.
Is there any connection between self-employment and health care?
CASH Oregon ModeratorParticipantSara hello,
We ask that you attempt to take the test before the Oregon class. Oregon Tax Law is all based on Federal Tax Law so we want to make sure you have your groundings before moving onto this next step. The exam can be an intimidating step for folks so please sign up for a Problem and Test Lab if you are looking for further help!
Thank you,

CASH Oregon ModeratorParticipantTax Slayer claims to be working on it. Don’t think it will affect the answer to the test problem
December 17, 2019 at 9:44 am in reply to: Link and Learn – Income – Tax Exempt income reported on 1040? #785CASH Oregon ModeratorParticipantGood question Elise,
We used to go over the 1040 in the initial class, but last year IRS had to make a new short form with schedules, and I think we stopped going over the 1040. Something for the training committee to think about because we should know that TaxSlayer is putting data in the correct place.
But that doesn’t answer your question: Yes, tax-exempt interest is reported, It goes on 1040 line 2a. Taxable interest is reported on line 2b and comes over from Schedule B. So the question was “How much interest income should they report on Form 1040, Schedule B, Part I?” and that would just be taxable interest.
Take a look at Tabs B-1, and D-7 thru 9 in Pub 4012.
CASH Oregon ModeratorParticipantAndreana,
I will send you the answer sheet in a separate email. We can’t put them on a website because some states use them as part of the test process. And we have cut out the answers to the 4 Oregon proficiency problems. Those problems are at https://eugeneta.org/certification-ty-2019/ along with a answer checker.

CASH Oregon ModeratorParticipantAndreana,
You are in District 19. Send your agreement to Don Mason, dmason.family@comcast.net
There is some glitch in the database that caused the info to not show up for you. I’ve alerted CASH.
